Just 40 years ago, the first IVF babies were created by simply mixing eggs and sperm in a dish. Since then, there have been tremendous technical advances that have steadily increased the success rates of infertility treatment, from optimizing incubators, to time-lapse assessment video, and testing the health of embryos using cutting-edge technology. The infertility field is arguably the most technology-based and rapidly changing field of medicine. The technology of fertility treatment is not taught in medical school and is only fully understood by those with vast clinical and research experience in the field. Even most other OB/GYN specialists have only a passing familiarity with today’s science and techniques in the field of fertility.
